General Position Description
Working alongside a team of pastors, the Pastor of Preteens and Youth Ministries will focus on four major areas:
- Discipleship of preteens and youth (grades 5-12).
- Development of lay leadership and volunteer teams.
- Partnership with parents and guardians.
- Outreach to our unchurched, neighbouring preteens and youth.
The Pastor of Preteens and Youth Ministries is expected to be an active member of FBC, a church of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (https://www.firstbc.org/pages/ouraffiliation), and be involved in community life beyond ministry (e.g. corporate worship, small group communities, and community events).
This is a full-time position where you will work 40 hours per week.
Primary Areas of Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Pastoral Team to develop ministry plans and strategies that are in line with the vision, mission, and values of the church.
- Provide pastoral leadership in encouraging preteens and youth to follow Jesus.
- Cultivate a dedicated team of Christ-centered lay leaders and volunteers who are committed to walking alongside preteens and youth to point them to Jesus.
- Equip parents and guardians as primary disciple-makers of preteens and youth.
- Collaborate with the Pastor of Children’s Ministries and Pastor of Discipleship and Community to develop a cohesive discipleship plan with significant transitions and milestones in mind.
- Collaborate with the Pastor of Street Ministries to develop ways for our preteens and youth to deepen their understanding of the church’s missional call.
- Develop new initiatives to reach our neighbouring, unchurched preteens and youth.
- Recommend systems, policies, and procedures that ensure the well-being of preteens, youth, and family.
- Strengthen partnerships with local preteens and youth ministries, local faith-based organizations, and community partners.
Other Ministerial/Staff Responsibilities
- Take an active role in worship services
- Attend staff meetings, retreats, and functions as required.
- All other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor.
Qualifications
- Sincere, maturing faith in Christ.
- Pastoral call to preteens and youth ministries.
- Ability to relate personally and socially to preteens, youth and parents with cultural sensitivity and an awareness of the complexities of adolescent development and faith formation.
- Team-oriented mindset and collaborative work ethic.
- Cultural intelligence to lead in a multi-ethnic/international community.
- Ability to translate vision and strategy into action.
- M.Div. or equivalent, preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in emerging generation ministries, preferred.
Requirements
- Adhere to the ministerial policies, procedures and protocol of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada.
- Be fully aligned with the church’s mission, vision, values, bylaws, and doctrinal positions.
- Model and promote the church’s core values.

Salary Range
The salary commensurate with experience ranges from approximately $62k to $68k per annum, in CAD.
